Eliminate Pain

The proceeding is what I call a 'laundry list' of things patients have had that I have successfully treated. If you're looking for a specific condition or to find out if I've ever treated anything like what you've got, chances are good that I have. If you don't see the particular condition listed that you are interested in resolving, please give me a call because I probably have (going through the list gets tiresome after a while).  If you would like to know the types of things I am particularly successful in treating, they include treating shoulder problems, Fibromyalgia, and rehabilitating sports, work and auto accident injuries. Mostly though, I do have a lot of experience in treating many patients over the years with all kinds of problems, some of which they didn't originally come to me to get resolved. So please call and I'm sure we can figure out what is the best treatment for you.

How do you treat... STUFF?

I will generally use various Chiropractic adjusting techniques to help the body to restore normal function and physiology. Chiropractic does not specifically treat any disease, condition, or syndrome. The true aim in Chiropractic is to restore the bodies own healing abilities, to restore balance, and get out of the way.

Generally speaking, I prefer to use gentle techniques first and not put you on an extended treatment program unless you need it. Its easier on you and I don't cause needless trauma fixing one condition and aggravating another. If you're looking for someone who will see you 3x/week for the rest of your natural life and always cracks your low back and then pops your neck on both sides... then please look elsewhere for care. I'm not saying its wrong to do that, I'm just telling you I don't do that.

I primarily use and apply the following Chiropractic techniques, though both I've trained in and studied many others:
Toftness My favorite technique; it uses an instrument to detect subluxation interference and 6-8 ounces of pressure over time ( 30 seconds to a couple of minutes) to gently move misaligned vertebra back into a more normal alignment. EXAMPLE: its the way you would like the valet to park your car v.s. the way you're afraid he parks your car. Low force adjusting is effective because of very simple physics, Work = force/time i.e. the amount of work is done by using a low force over longer time as it is using a high force over a short time. Its a different way of adjusting than most people are used to, but I promise you it works and the positive changes on post-treatment x-rays bear me out. This kind of adjusting has been in existence since the early 1960's so it has a very extensive history and track record of success.
Activator uses an instrument to deliver a very fast impulse over a very short period of time. It is considered a low-force adjusting method, and the instrument makes a clicking or popping sound when it is being used.
SOT uses body weight and wedges over several minutes to adjust, and so it is very gentle and also very quiet. It does take time, but I've had particularly good success treating patients with low back pain and sciatica with this method.
Toggle recoil (Palmer method) this method uses a hand-delivered force with a drop-style headpiece for upper cervical adjusting. It is one of the original adjusting techniques developed by D.D. Palmer so its been around since the turn of the last century.
Diversified this is what most people have encountered as Chiropractic adjusting. It involves manual adjusting of joints of the spine and extremities that result in you hearing a pop. The noise is actually caused by cavitation inside the joint, i.e. gas going from being dissolved in solution to forming a bubble at the speed of sound, hence the pop. No bones crack or anything like that, you are actually hearing a tiny sonic boom.
Gonstead a manual adjusting technique that was developed by Clarence Gonstead that is different from Diversified adjusting. The differences are more apparent to a Chiropractor than a lay person, but are a little hard to expound on in brief here.
BEST Bio Energetic Synchronization Technique is a technique that attempts to synchronize energies within the body, releasing blockages and having remarkable effects on things that you might not think of as chiropractic territory.

FYI:
I have nothing against manual adjusting techniques, but my first preference will be to use the gentle techniques first. As you can see by the list I have knowledge and practical experience with many techniques, but I don't try to make patients fit my techniques. Adjusting techniques are like tools in the toolbox, and as good as a hammer does hammer-stuff you'd never try to try to make it do things it just wouldn't be very good at, like being a screwdriver or a wrench. Because everyone is an individual, I like using the gentle stuff first because it gives me someplace to go if the results aren't coming as rapidly as Id expect. Manual adjusting is wonderful for rehabilitating scar tissue -as an example- but I don't like using it all the time because I feel it can cause problems over time as well.

Physiotherapy
I use a number of physical therapy treatments and machines to enhance the effects of the adjustment and speed healing. They include the use of heat and cold, shortwave diathermy, ultrasound, Intersegmental Traction, and manual and machine massage. These are applied as needed, so please don't ask if I can give you an hour massage; if you want that I'm happy to refer you to any number of massage therapists who do a great job of that.

Nutrition
I can do nutritional testing to suggest what you may need to speed your recovery, though I don't push OR WANT TO PUSH any particular line of vitamins. I don't carry anything you can get on your own because Id have to charge more for it than you could find elsewhere and you'd be understandably mad if I were to do that. I do stock a few items that are not available to you otherwise that have definite benefit. I do believe in nutritional supplementation, including enzymatic supplementation and dietary modification which I can suggest to patients as their conditions warrant.

Exercise
Very important, very individual, very much something that needs to be done and is such an individual multifaceted subject that it deserves a book. Ill talk to you about it when you come in. BTW, DON'T start an exercise program until your condition stabilizes otherwise you'll just aggravate and prolong your treatment. If you could exercise your way out it this, you'd have probably done it already, right?

Mental/Emotional/Spiritual/Social/Financial health
This is part of a lecture I give called the 7 points of Health, that I wont get into right now, except to say that health is a balance between many factors and that they are all important. Imbalance or lack of integration between the various parts equals instability and poor function and decreased overall health. I don't give financial planning advice or anything, but these are areas that also need to be paid attention to.

Dr. Brian Hattfield has saved me from so much pain on several occasions. I have been rear-ended twice. The first thing I do is call Dr. Hattfield. The first accident took a year of treatment. I was great until it happened again. I am now almost back to normal. It is all because of the excellent care I have gotten from a gifted chiropractor, Dr. Brian Hattfield. Janet Snow
